So What PCV Training Do I Need?

If the PCV training you need is for driving a mini-bus for hire and reward, then you will need a D1 added to your licence, this will allow you to drive vehicles with a minimum of nine and a maximum of 16 passenger seats, with or without a trailer – weighing no more than 750 kg.

If you want to drive a mini-bus and then tow a trailer behind it, then this is two separate tests, as you first need PCV training to pass D1 and then add D1+E. This will entitle you to drive the same as category D1 but with a trailer over 750 kg.

The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 12,000 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle, so make sure you identify the correct PCV training for you and get good advice.

If you are looking for more from your PCV training and want to drive a bus or coach, then you will need to take your PCV test in a suitable category of vehicle.

As D1 there are two tests to pass if you want to drive any bus with more than eight passenger seats, with a trailer over 750 kg. To get D+E you must first get some PCV training to help you pass D and then add D+E afterwards and this will allow you to drive as category D, but plus a trailer over 750kg.

Let us know at Sirens Driving Academy what you want from your PCV training so we can advise you the correct route.
